Heliopolis Center for the Arts

The Heliopolis Center for the Arts brings artists and audiences together across disciplines and cultures to explore new forms of creative expression. Through collaborative programming and community engagement, the Center supports artistic experimentation and cultural dialogue in Calgary’s evolving arts landscape.

Our Promise to the Arts

The Heliopolis Center for the Arts is dedicated to creating opportunities for artists to explore and share their work in an accessible and collaborative environment.

Through interdisciplinary programming, the Center brings together musicians, visual artists, performers, storytellers, and cultural practitioners to experiment, exchange ideas, and develop new artistic collaborations.

By fostering artistic dialogue and cultural exchange, the Center contributes to a vibrant and interconnected arts community in Calgary.

Our mission

The Heliopolis Center for the Arts exists to support artistic exploration and cultural dialogue by providing space, resources, and opportunities for artists to collaborate across disciplines and communities.

We aim to create an inclusive environment where creativity can flourish and where diverse artistic traditions can meet, inspire one another, and evolve.

A Season of Artistic Exchange

The Center’s inaugural programming focuses on an experimental season designed to encourage collaboration and creative exploration.

Twice each month, the Heliopolis Art Lounge hosts open mic and jam sessions that invite artists from different disciplines and cultural backgrounds to share ideas, experiment with new forms of artistic dialogue, and discover unexpected collaborations.

These gatherings function as creative laboratories where new artistic partnerships and ideas can emerge.

The most promising collaborations that develop during this experimental season will inform a second programming season focused on deeper artistic development and public presentation.

Strengthening Calgary's Cultural Landscape

Calgary’s arts community is rich in talent and cultural diversity, yet many artists and audiences continue to operate within separate artistic or cultural circles.

The Heliopolis Center for the Arts seeks to bridge these spaces by encouraging collaboration between disciplines, traditions, and communities.

By creating opportunities for artistic exchange and experimentation, the Center supports the development of new artistic ideas, partnerships, and cultural connections that strengthen Calgary’s broader arts ecosystem.

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

The Heliopolis Center for the Arts is committed to supporting artistic voices that reflect the diversity of Calgary’s communities.

Our programming encourages meaningful dialogue and collaboration between artists from different cultural backgrounds, artistic traditions, and lived experiences.

Rather than presenting diversity as a symbolic gesture, the Center seeks to create authentic opportunities for creative exchange and shared exploration.

Building Partnerships across Calgary

Collaboration is central to the work of the Heliopolis Center for the Arts.

As a new cultural organization, the Center actively seeks partnerships with artists, community organizations, and cultural institutions that share a commitment to artistic innovation and dialogue.

Our first collaborative initiative will take place during Arab Heritage Month in partnership with the Calgary Arab Arts & Culture Society, presenting a month-long photography exhibition across Southwest and Downtown Calgary.

The Center looks forward to developing additional collaborations with organizations such as Lunchbox Theatre, Cornerstone Music Café, Kawalease Act, and other cultural partners across the city.

join the conversation

The Heliopolis Center for the Arts welcomes artists, collaborators, and community partners who wish to participate in building a dynamic and inclusive cultural space in Calgary.

Whether through artistic collaboration, partnership, or community engagement, there are many ways to take part in the Center’s evolving journey.
